Local man Glen Gardner has become the latest trustee to join Brixham Heritage Museum.

Glen attended Eden Park schools, Brixham, back in the ’80s and remembers the pupils working on the famous tapestry which was presented to Queen Elizabeth II on her visit, and is now held by the Museum. The tapestry will form part of a special display to celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in June this year.

Working life took Glen away from Brixham and to many parts of the world through working in the cruise industry. In 2021 he returned with his wife Trupti and two boys. The family quickly immersed themselves in Brixham life and opened Healthy Footsteps Podiatry Clinic in New Road.

Glen rediscovered Brixham Heritage Museum and was fascinated by their model of the Brixham railway station, and the branch line trains, as they were before the infamous Dr Beeching drew his accountant’s line through many rural railway routes across the country.

‘I was born and raised in Brixham, my family name goes back many generations. My grandfather Ralph Gardner was a local historian and contributed lots to the museum, St Mary’s Church, and many other aspects of Brixham’s marvellous history’ says Glen.

‘When I visited the museum, I saw it with new eyes and was so impressed by the unique collections, solely capturing life through the ages in Brixham. This splendid heritage museum safeguards the Brixham story for future generations and I felt that I wanted to be a part of it. I have recently taken a strong interest in the old Brixham railway and have decided to concentrate on projects relating to this part of our history to add to the museum’s current exhibits’.

Glen became a Trustee and ironically, at the first Trustees meeting, arrived on crutches having fallen off a railway bridge whilst exploring! He promises to be a lively new addition to the museum team.
