neolithic greenstone axehead
Neolithic greenstone axehead. 108 x 70 x 19 mm.
curator's notes
One of the oldest human-made objects in the collection. Also one of the most finely-crafted, and the most beautiful, in the perfection of its gradation of form. Such axeheads were widely traded around neolithic Europe, and may have been status objects rather than for practical use.
